Monitoring Benefit
The License Group view breaks your licensing down by SKU and expands each one into the individual service plans it contains. A single licence such as Microsoft 365 E3 grants a long list of separate services, and this view is what shows you which ones are actually included and enabled.
It reads the same tenant data as Configuration - Subscriptions & Licenses Status, grouped by SKU rather than presented as a flat total.
How do we verify the monitoring test results?
Read the same grouping by hand with Microsoft Graph PowerShell. The MSOnline module previously used for this, including Get-MsolAccountSku, has been retired by Microsoft and no longer authenticates.
Connect-MgGraph -Scopes 'Organization.Read.All'
Get-MgSubscribedSku | ForEach-Object {
[PSCustomObject]@{
Sku = $_.SkuPartNumber
Total = $_.PrepaidUnits.Enabled
Consumed = $_.ConsumedUnits
ServicePlans = ($_.ServicePlans |
Sort-Object ServicePlanName |
Select-Object -ExpandProperty ServicePlanName) -join ', '
}
} | Format-List
To look at one SKU in detail, including whether each service plan is enabled at the tenant level:
(Get-MgSubscribedSku | Where-Object SkuPartNumber -eq 'SPE_E3').ServicePlans |
Select-Object ServicePlanName, ProvisioningStatus, AppliesTo |
Sort-Object ServicePlanName
Compare the service plan list against the ENow dashboard for the same SKU.
Common warning or error results, and potential solutions
- A service appears in the plan list but users cannot access it. Being present in the SKU is not the same as being assigned. A service plan can be disabled per user even where the tenant holds the licence — check the individual user's assigned licence detail.
- Service plan names do not resemble the product names you know. Microsoft's internal plan names differ from marketing names, sometimes considerably. Microsoft publishes a mapping of product names to service plan identifiers in its licensing documentation; use that rather than inferring from the string.
-
A SKU shows a
ProvisioningStatusother than Success. The service is still being enabled on the tenant, or failed to enable. This is a Microsoft-side state; if it persists for more than a few hours, raise it with Microsoft rather than with ENow. - The grouping is empty while the parent check returns data. Contact ENow Support with both results, as the two views read the same source.
