Microsoft 365 reports show a GUID instead of a user or display name

Symptom

In the Microsoft 365 reports, the UserName and DisplayName columns show a GUID rather than the actual user or display name. This appears in the report preview as well as in generated reports.

Cause

This is a tenant-level Microsoft setting, not an ENow one. Microsoft 365 can anonymize user-level information in usage analytics — replacing usernames and display names with GUIDs — so that organizations subject to local privacy laws are not surfacing identifiable user data in reports.

Because ENow's Microsoft 365 reports are built on that data, the anonymization carries through: ENow can only display what the tenant returns.

Resolution

If your organization does not require anonymized user-level information, an administrator can change the tenant setting:

1. In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Settings > Org settings > Services.
2. Select Reports.
3. Under Choose how to show user information, select Show identifiable user information in reports.
4. Save.

ENow reports will show identifiable user information the next time they are generated. Reports already generated with anonymized data are not retroactively updated.

Before you change it

This setting exists for a reason. Confirm with whoever owns data privacy in your organization before turning anonymization off — it affects all Microsoft 365 usage reporting in the tenant, not only the ENow reports.
